Societe focuses specifically on IPA’s, Belgian inspired brews, and wine-barrel aged sours handcrafted on a 20 barrel brewhouse. Our beers are available locally throughout San Diego and at our newly built and customized facility, which showcases a 3,000 sq. ft. tasting room with an unobstructed view of the barrel room and brewery. Societe opened its doors May 2012.
By 2010, CBC was brewing about 5,000 barrels of beer per year, allowing them to expand their reach beyond California. Out-of-state accounts embraced core beers and new varieties like the citrus-laced Orange Avenue Wit and hop-hammered Idiot IPA to the point where, even after all the expansion, CBC still couldn’t produce enough beer to meet an ever-increasing demand.
That problem was solved in 2012, when CBC grew their empire, building a brand new 30-barrel brewhouse in a 22,000 square foot building on Knoxville St. in San Diego’s Tecolote Canyon area. The Knoxville production facility will eventually provide enough space for an overall annual capacity of 60,000 barrels, provided increased space for their expanded barrel-aging program and gave CBC fans on the mainland a tasting room at which to wrap their palates around even more innovative beer styles.
Great flavors and great aromas give a beer its distinct personality. We aim high with all of our beers, yet focus on keeping things simple. Classic styles done beautifully – that is Culture.
Culture Brewing Co began with a long-time passion for beer. Culture’s three owners, John Niedernhofer (Owner), Steve Ragan (Owner/Brew Master) and Dennis Williams (Owner) began brewing together long ago. From their earliest brainstorms about taking things to the next level, the goal was always to create more than just great beer. Bringing their approachable style to the already rich community of the craft beer industry, they opened their brewery in February 2013.
The original Aztec Brewery was started in Mexico during Prohibition. When Prohibition ended, the brewery was moved to San Diego. It became known as ABC – Aztec Brewing Company. In 1953 the brewery was purchased by a competitor from the midwest. The brand was later retired and disappeared from San Diego. In 2008, John Webster discovered the brand and began bringing it back to life with his partner, Claudia Faulk. In 2010 they joined forces with brewer Rob Esposito. A year later they opened a small production brewery with tap room in Vista, California.
Hess Brewing Co. produces high quality, unique and distinctive beers for the craft beer lover, serving the San Diego consumer and visiting tourists from our two brewery and tasting room locations, as well our distribution network as wide as our production will allow without compromising supply or quality.

ChuckAlek Independent Brewers opened its doors in January of 2013 in Ramona, CA. Named after our grandfathers, Chuck and Alek, history and heritage are at the forefront of our company and brewing. We specialize in original interpretations of old-school styles of beer, focusing on session, funky, and lager beers while attempting to stay true to historical brewing methods whenever possible. Our flagship beer Dowser, a Düsseldorf Altbier, exemplifies our brewing style and methods by using decoction mashing techniques as well as slow stepped fermentation to achieve a rich, full bodied, and balanced traditional German ale.
Hangar 24 Craft Brewery began with a true passion for good beer, the absolute love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being around great friends. Founder and Master Brewer Ben Cook and his buddies used to meet at hangar 24 after an afternoon of flying to trade stories, talk aviation, play music and share a few cold ones that Ben just finished brewing at home. These days, the location of where these fine beers are brewed has changed, but the quality time spent enjoying a delicious, handcrafted beer and conversation with friends is the same as ever. Cheers.
Here’s the other thing. We’re adventurous. San Diego is the brew capital of the world (are we exaggerating here… NO!) There’s lots of great brewers. We found a few of them and held them down, twisted their arm really hard and asked them to brew something new and out there for us. Then, we found a few chefs who thought brewing was good sport. We helped them with the technical stuff and set them loose with the brew equipment.
Iron Fist Brewing Company is a family owned brewery located in Vista, California, smack-dab in the middle of the exciting San Diego craft beer scene. Our passion for the best hand crafted beer prompted us to make a lot of it. However, we quickly realized we were making a bit more than we could drink ourselves, so we decided to sell whatever we don’t drink to you. So do yourself a favor; start a little revolution. It’s ok. We won’t tell on you. Put the 500 pack of light lager back with all its buddies and rule your taste with an Iron Fist!
At Rip Current Brewing we are going against the flow in the brewing industry by focusing on robust, flavorful beer styles from around the world. While the tidal wave of beers in the marketplace are lightly bready and largely tasteless lagers, we are creating a rip current by brewing beers that go against the tide engaging your palate with rich malty, big hoppy, sweet fruity and even some barrel-aged and sour style beers. Our goal is to give you the broadest variety of styles at our tasting room and let you tell us what you prefer.

Mike Hess, is founder and Proprietor of Mike Hess Brewing. Beginning as homebrewer in 1995 and brewing 5 gallon batches in his Philadelphia apartment’s kitchen. When he moved to San Diego, he refined his all grain brewing skills on his hand-built 10 gallon 3-tier gravity system, and later a 20 gallon More Beer system. Like most homebrewers who dream of being a professional brewer, Mike opened up the original Hess as not only to try his hand in the world of craft beer, but also as a concept prooftest of the nano-brewery as a business. He designed the original Miramar brewery, building it with the help of local fabricators and his brother Greg. He is the company’s CBO (Chief Brewing Officer) and designer of most of Hess’ recipes. Mike is the visionary behind our North Park location, wishing to create a unique brewery experience that showcases not just the equipment, but the brewers themselves, as they work to create delicious artisanal beers in full view of their fans and our visitors. Mike is a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder – the town in which he fell in love with craft beer, and served as an officer in the US Navy for 10 years.
Misty spent six years in the US Navy as a linguist where she developed an exceptionally high tolerance for beer. After her enlistment she moved back home to San Diego where she learned that quality outranks quantity while exploring the finest hipster-esque beer bars in North and South Park. During one of her drunken escapades she realized it’d be fun to put craft beer into a cake and thus, PubCakes was born.
Grant Fraley came from San Diego’s vibrant homebrew culture to co-found ChuckAlek Ind. Brewers with his wife, and leads brewing and beer design. His interest in brewing history, particularly of German lagers and 19th century Porter & Stout, shine through in ChuckAlek’s brews.
